Free coffee and tea will be available to New Year's revelers traveling on the state Thruway at all 27 travel plazas from 11 p.m. today to 7 a.m. tomorrow, according to the Thruway Authority.

WOONSOCKET — It's not just the last day of 2008, it's the last day of the Heritage Coffee Shoppe, a fixture on Main Street for 26 years. Kathy and Robert Poirier, the proprietors for the last decade, have been telling patrons for weeks they are closing the doors today.

Jackson Coffee will be just what the doctor ordered at Allegiance Health's new neuromuscular specialty center. Brian Surgener, owner of the Jackson Coffee Co., 201 S. Mechanic St., plans to open a second shop in the center when it opens this summer across the street from the hospital.
